Cannabis Club Guide
All you need to know about Cannabis Clubs in Barcelona
It is very easy to get rejected by any cannabis club in Barcelona; or even worse, fall trap of fake street promoters on La Rambla. If you follow the instructions listed below, you’ll save yourself a great deal of trouble.
Cannabis clubs are not coffeeshops
In order to smoke weed legally in Barcelona, you need to get a membership in a cannabis club. They are not stores, they are private social clubs, so you need to complete full membership registration to enter the club. In order to do that, you need to show your ID at the reception desk and request a membership card. You don’t need an invitation.
Request Information
Message the cannabis club directly or any of the affiliated websites and you will receive instructions to visit the club with your ID. Cannabis clubs can’t answer questions prior to your arrival. Therefore, save all your questions for when you meet them face to face at the reception desk.

Don’t contact the club days in advance
Cannabis clubs can stop making new members without notice, so don’t contact them days or weeks in advance. If you contact them the same day of your arrival, you shouldn’t run into any shortcomings. They reply on the spot, so you can contact them on your way to the club.
Guests are not allowed, everyone must join the club
Everyone wishing to enter a cannabis club should contact the club INDIVIDUALLY. So, each person who wants to join, must fill in the details on the contact page of their website or in any affiliated website. Anyone wishing to enter, must complete full membership registration (interview and payment). There are no exceptions. There are no group discounts, day-passes nor free entrances, they are illegal. So, please don’t insist.
Foreigners can join cannabis clubs
You don’t need to be a Spanish citizen to join a cannabis club in Barcelona. However, you will need to provide a Spanish address to enter the club. Any will do, so don’t make it a big deal.
DON’T BE STUPID!!!
Avoid street promoters and drug dealers. Any stranger that offers help to find a club is most likely a thief or a con man. Every time you use a promoter, you are financing illegal DRUG TRAFFICKING. They sell fake hash and synthetic weed.
Many tourist end up in hospitals every year for smoking shit from these clubs.
Keep it Short, Sharp & Simple
Don’t ask any further questions – Everything you need to know is on the information email after the submission of the form. The clubs can’t answer further questions unless you meet them face to face at the reception desk.
Bring a valid ID – You need to bring a passport, driver’s license or any ID from your country (with a picture of your face on it). Student IDs or credit cards are not valid.
Register at the reception desk – The membership registration process (interview and payment) happens at the club, not online, nor over the phone.
You can get up to 100 gr (3.5 oz) of cannabis – You can get up to 50 grams of marijuana plus 50 grams of hashish from the club per month.
Membership costs between €20 – €50 – Don’t ask for discounts, short term membership or “can I just buy weed without joining the club”. If you can’t afford it, go out and make friends; this is Barcelona for god’s sake!
What does the membership fee include?
A big smile on your face. The membership fee doesn’t include anything from the dispensary. In other words, the membership registration offers free access to the club house for 12 months, that’s it. Cannabis club menus in Ciutat Vella may be 20% – 40% more expensive than clubs outside the city center. That doesn’t mean they are touristic clubs, it only means they better located.
How to be a Good Member
Keep a Low Profile
- Don’t come in groups larger than 4 people, split the group if necessary.
- Don’t come inside the club if the gate is being surveilled by police.
- Don’t leave rental bikes parked in front of the club.
- Don’t leave people waiting outside.
- Don’t stay lingering near the club entrance.
- Don’t bring any luggage to the club.
- Just walk in and out without talking to strangers or promoters.
- If you are an Italian living in Barcelona, don’t SPEAK SO LOUD!!!
Don’t use financial words – You can NEVER use the words ‘buy’ or ‘sell’ in connection with cannabis. Members of cannabis clubs can ‘get’ or ‘acquire’ cannabis from the dispensary.
If you are not a member, don’t ask about the menu – It’s illegal for a club to disclose such information. It’s considered promotion. Please wait till you go to the reception desk.
Educate yourself – Cannabis clubs have means and ways of educating their members about legal aspects of cannabis clubs in Barcelona. If you have any doubts, don’t hesitate to ask.
Taking weed out of the club – The club is obliged to inform you that YOU CAN’T take the weed out of the club. However, a lot of people do it at their own risk–in their underwear.
Trouble with Police in Barcelona
Cannabis is legal only inside the club – the possession of cannabis on the street is penalized with a fine of around €500. It is NOT A CRIME unless you are caught sharing it among friends in public.
If the police catches your weed – You have the right to remain silent and you DON’T NEED TO SIGN any document they ask you to sign. You can tell them: “I respect and value your work. I’m trully sorry, but I rather remain silent, so please do what you have to do.” Feel free to repeat the same sentence to anything he says.
What can you do with the fine – Spain doesn’t have international treaties with other countries to prosecute cannabis-related fines. Some people may choose to leave the country without paying the fine. No one has even been stopped at the airport for a cannabis related fine.
How can you make things worse – If you tell the police you BOUGHT the weed at a cannabis club on behalf of someone else, you may be charged with drug trafficking. You may also make things worse by signing any document the police ask you to sign.
Don’t trade money on the street – If police catches you exchanging cash and marijuana among friends, you may be charged with drug trafficking. This crime is penalised with 1-2 years in jail plus a heavy fine.
